Policy document on Library
Statement: Shree Gokarnanatheshwara college library aims to fulfill the information needs of the teachers, staff and students.
Scope: This policy, applies to all the Management, Academic, Administrative and Support staff of the College.
Objective: The main objective of the library is to develop related collection, promote the library services and thereby enhancing learning and access to information resources. To promote the habit of reading among the students. To help the students develop general awareness by supplying them with material on current affairs.
Library Collections
Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College Library was established in the year 1983, with 1156 books to start within a 600 sqt area a humble beginning was made. The carpet area of the library floor presently located in a spacious library floor hall is 3849 Square feet.The library collection includes Textbooks, General books. Reference books, rare books, Literature Books, Personality Development & Value education books, periodicals, bound volumes of journals, newspapers, question bank and educational CD/DVD’s.
General Instructions/ Rules and Regulations:
- The college library will be kept open from 9.15 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. on all working days (Saturday 9.15 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.) and from 9.15 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. during vacation
- Students shall maintain strict silence within the library premises.
- News papers and magazines will not be issued to the students. It is available in the library for reference.
- Marking with pen or pencil on the books or magazines of the library is strictly forbidden.
- Each student will be issued three borrowers ticket which entitles him or her to borrow three books at a time and the tickets will have to be returned to the librarian at the end of the year to claim no due certificate.
- Books will not be lent to the students unless they produce their own card.
- If the ticket is lost the fact must be immediately brought to the notice of the librarian and duplication and a duplicate ticket will be issued on the payment of the prescribed fee.
- The books borrowed from the library should not be sublet by the borrower.
- Application for books should be submitted on the previous day after 4.00 p.m. for the issue of books.
- Books may generally be kept for one week and the due date will be stamped on the due date slip. In case the date falls on a holiday, the books shall be returned on the next working day.
- The book may however be renewed for another week if there is no other application for the same.
- A student who fails to return the books on the due will be fined 1rupee per day.
- If a book is not returned to the library within a month the matter will be reported to the principal.
- If a student finds that books issued are in good condition the matter should be immediately brought to the notice of the librarian. Otherwise he or she will be liable to be held responsible for any damage to the book which the librarian may notice on its return to the library.
- Books lost, torn, defaced, marked or damaged in any way shall have to be replaced by the borrower along with a fine as fixed by the Principal.
- Books from the reference section will be issued to students at 4.00 p.m. and will have to be returned to the library on the next day before 9.30 a.m.
- A book may be reserved for a reader provided he/she makes the application to the librarian for the same before 10.00 a.m. and such books should be collected within 24 hours of the librarian’s information that the books is available.
- Students should note that the library must not be used as a common room and must be made use only for the purpose of study. Any misbehavior of the student inside the library will be reported to the Principal by the librarian and he or she will not be given any library facility until he/she get the Principal’s permission.
- At the end of the academic year all the library books must be returned to the library on the day fixed during July. A fine of 1rupee will be levied per day if the book is not returned on the said date.
- Any book lent out may be recalled by the Principal at any time even before the due date of returning.
- Any damaged to the furniture or property in the library will have to made good by the person concerned.
- The Library Advisory Committee develops the Collection Development Policy in Consultation with the Librarian.
- Preference will be given to build collections on textbooks and reference books out of general fund.
- No user shall engage in any conduct that disturbs or interferes with the legitimate use of the Library.
- Use of cell phones and cameras in the Library is restricted.
- Users will browse the Internet only for academic purposes, i.e. for teaching and Learning.
- Deface or destroy library property will be deprived of using the library.
- Reference books/ Journals/ Rare collections/CD & DVD’S cannot be borrowed for home reading.
- Periodicals can be borrowed only by the faculty for general reading.
- Students have to sign the Register whenever they visit the Library.
- Students will take good care of the books taken out. Any damage will be dealt with a fine.
- Students should return Library books and surrender their Library cards and obtain No Due Certificate before receiving Admission Tickets for the University Examinations.
